Episiotomy and Repair

An episiotomy is sometimes used to enlarge the vaginal opening to facilitate vaginal delivery.

Frequently performed in the past, they are much less frequently performed today.

This video demonstrates the use of an episiotomy and the subsequent surgical repair. The repair would also be appropriate for spontaneous vaginal or perineal lacerations following childbirth.
