Immediate Care of the Newborn

As soon as the baby is delivered, it needs to have a clear airway and to breath normally.

It needs to have its’ umbilical cord clamped and cut, and to be dry and warm.

The baby will need medication in its’ eyes, to reduce the risk of infection, and an injection of Vitamin K, to reduce the risk of bleeding problems.

This video demonstrates the procedure for attending to these needs of the newborn.
