5-Minute Pregnancy
By the end of the first month, the pregnancy is about 3 millimeters in diameter.
During the second month:
- Most of her symptoms of early pregnancy arrive, including extreme fatigue, breast tenderness, and sometimes nausea.
- The fetus shows a heartbeat.
By the end of the third month, the fetus has grown to about an inch in length. It has a heartbeat and moves. It lies well-protected deep within her pelvis.
During the fourth month, her extreme fatigue, breast tenderness and nausea usually resolve. She enters what some people call the “euphoria stage.” This is characterized by boundless energy and a deep sense of well-being. All structural components of the fetus are present, although they will need to grow and mature.
During the fifth month, she feels the baby move consistently. Towards the end of the fifth month, fetal movements are more forceful, particularly at night.
In the sixth month, her pregnancy is clearly visible to those around her. Her weight gain accelerates as the fetus grows rapidly. She must lean backwards to maintain her balance, causing curving of the spine. Her breasts have enlarged and the nipples darkened.
In the seventh month, as the fetus grows about a half pound a week, her stamina decreases.
In the eighth month, she’s becoming increasingly uncomfortable and anxious for this new little person to arrive. She has maximum curvature of the spine and her breasts are ready for lactation.
In her 9th month, she delivered a daughter at 39 weeks by Cesarean Section. Three months after her Cesarean Section, she is nearly back to normal.
